MMB PGR Discussion Group
Wednesday 13 November at 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Welcome to a new year of MMB PGR discussion group meetings! This session will focus on critical approaches to migration studies, looking to question and challenge established discourse and practice in the field. Dr Sam Okyere, Senior Lecturer in Sociology and SPAIS Migration Research Group lead, will kick us off with a short keynote speech.
Members will then be asked to introduce their research to the group using Play-Doh! We hope this experimental (and fun) exercise will help us literally play with our research topics, thus encouraging critical reflexive dialogue and pushing the boundaries of academic discussion.
This is an interdisciplinary, PGR-led initiative aimed at fostering debate and exchange between PhD researchers and MMB scholars. The sessions offer a space for critical reflection and an opportunity to discuss shared research interests. We plan on holding three more sessions throughout the year on topics ranging from queering borders and creative methodologies to anti-patriarchal labour organisation!
Please register here to attend as this will help us plan catering and let us know if you have any dietary requirements. For further information, please get in touch.
We look forward to seeing you there 🙂
