The ‘Bristol Approach’: A Facilitated Workshop for MMB

Monday 10 July 2023 at 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

MMB is at an exciting stage in its development. We have built an interdisciplinary and engaged community of scholars across the University. Our research interests and engagement are incredibly broad – encompassing both migration studies (asylum, family migration, ‘low skilled’ migration, irregular migration) and mobilities (of people, plants, animals, ideas, data). We bring together researchers who share the ‘Bristol Approach’ to migration and mobilities: conceptually driven, critical and constructive. We are now looking to refine and showcase this approach and build on it to further our capacity for international collaborations and relationships.

This workshop will bring together colleagues across MMB to generate new ideas for:

• refining and identifying the ‘Bristol Approach’ as a shared endeavour, to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration across the UoB research community;

• international fora and collaborators that could be interested in connecting with MMB.

The facilitated event will reflect MMB’s identity as an innovative, exciting place to work, collaborate and study. Colleagues will work together to think creatively and strategically and commit to collective action in scaling up the ‘Bristol Approach’. The workshop will include teambuilding processes and focus on a series of experiential activities that engage and challenge those taking part – it will be far removed from a meeting format – and there will be plenty of tea, coffee and cake!
